Juvéderm® Ultra 2 is a sterile, cross-linked hyaluronic acid dermal filler of non-animal origin. This filler is ideal for fine to medium wrinkles and lines, especially in sensitive regions like around the eyes and lips. It’s recommended for patients aged 25-35 for early aging signs, administered into shallow layers of the skin. The effect will last for a 6 month period in lip treatments and up to a 12 month period in other regions.
As the lightest and least dense gel in the Juvéderm® range, compared to others like Juvederm® Volbella® with Lidocaine, it uses Allergan’s patented 3D-Matrix technology, with 24 mg/ml hyaluronic acid to fill hollow areas and stimulate collagen production. The product also includes lidocaine, which minimises discomfort during injections for a more comfortable experience. FDA-approved, Juvederm® undergoes rigorous traceability to ensure consistent quality and safety for users.
Juvéderm® Ultra 2 is designed to smooth fine to moderate wrinkles around delicate regions like the lips, eyes, and forehead. It enhances facial contours, restores volume, and defines the lips. This versatile filler is ideal for treating shallow wrinkles and lines, hydrating the skin, and addressing areas like sunken temples, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, crow’s feet, and under-eye hollows.
Juvéderm® is manufactured by Allergan, a global pharmaceutical company based in Europe, known for producing high-quality dermal fillers and other aesthetic products.
Juvéderm® Ultra 2 is composed of 100% synthetic, non-animal hyaluronic acid, which is highly biocompatible and well-tolerated by human tissues. The product has a transparent, homogeneous gel consistency and is fully biodegradable. For added comfort, it contains lidocaine, which significantly reduces pain during the procedure.
The pack consists of:
Store the package in a temperature range between 2°C and 25°C.
This product is intended for injection into the dermis or lip mucous membrane by a trained medical practitioner, following local regulations. Only practitioners with appropriate training and knowledge of the injection site’s anatomy should administer it.
Juvéderm® Ultra 2 should be used as supplied; modifications may compromise its sterility and effectiveness. Practitioners must inform patients about uses, contraindications, and potential risks before treatment, and the injection area should be thoroughly disinfected.
Before injecting, attach the needle correctly and expel any air from the syringe. Inject slowly and with minimal pressure; if blocked, replace the needle. Aspiration is recommended to confirm the needle is not in a blood vessel.
If blanching occurs, stop immediately and massage the area until normal color returns. The amount injected will vary based on the area and technique. Avoid over-correction to prevent side effects. Touch-up or repeat treatments may be necessary, ideally with at least 2 weeks between sessions. Gentle massage after injection helps distribute the filler evenly.
After the injection, the patient should avoid applying makeup for at least 12 hours to minimise the risk of irritation and infection. It’s also essential to refrain from exposing the treated area to sunlight, UV rays, and extreme temperatures, including saunas or hammam sessions, for 2 weeks. This helps to ensure optimal healing and enhances the overall results of the treatment. Additionally, gentle massaging of the treated area may be recommended to promote even distribution of the product. If any unusual symptoms arise, patients should contact their medical practitioner for guidance.
The results of this filler vary from 6 to 12 months, depending on the area treated and individual differences like age, lifestyle and skin type. The results are visible immediately after the injection until the hyaluronic acid is absorbed by the surrounding tissues.
Each patient should be made aware of every potential side effect, which can occur immediately after the treatment or be delayed. These may include:
The patient should report any adverse reactions lasting longer than a week to their healthcare provider, who can provide appropriate treatment.
Juvéderm® must not be used in patients:
